Grangestone Sherry Cask Finish

The third expression in this series is, like the other two, bottled at 40% ABV.  The nose has lots of dried fruits, prunes, raisins, digestive biscuits and a slight farmyuard, vegatal funkiness.   The taste is more dried fruit, prunes, bitter dark chocolate and citrus peel.  The mouthfeel is quite creamy, chewy and even oily.  The finish is spicy with fresh cut jalepenos and black pepper.  Not massively complex... consider if Macallan had an off day.  However Macallan's bad days are still better than many distilleries good days.

    Manhattan Project: Experiment #51

    Written by

    Location: Home, Houston, TX

    Date: April 2020

    Price: Free

Recipe: 50 ml Tullamore DEW, 15 ml Dolin Sweet Vermouth, 5ml Luxardo, dash Orange Bitters

Garnish: Burnt orange peel (website said cherry but I didn't have one)

    Served: Rocks

Comments: Very good, first Irish Manhattan, recipe from Tullamore DEW website.  Orange bitters and Orange peel maybe too much Orange.

    Dimple Golden Selection

The nose on this is malty and sweet, almost bready with perhaps a faint hint of orange marmalade on warm toast.  Smooth and rich taste with more sweet citrus notes, cooked banana, cayenne with a slighty bitter and peppery (but long) finish.  Despite being bottled at 40% ABV a little water helped mellow this and bring out some dried fruits and even a little oak bite.  Certainly a little richer and more complex than your standard blend and the more I drank.... the more I liked it!
