Royal Lochnagar Selected Reserve

The nose is both dry and sweet, suggesting a sweet wine or sherry influence, and even a little alcohol despite relatively low 43% ABV.  The taste is warming but smooth.  Spicy and a little malty like a fruit malt loaf (other reviews describe fruitcake and ginger cake... I say malt loaf with a cup of sweet tea), candied dried fruit and even chocolate.  Some warmth in finish as well, but still sweet with more spice, tannins, grainy notes and even some smoke.  Quite rich and a departure from usual more subtle Royal Lochnagar offerings.
