Cutty Sark Storm

I was a bit wary of this one when I saw it 101 World Whiskies to Try Before You Die as I am not wild about Cutty Sark and just “peating it up” struck me as a marketing ploy and a rather unimaginative line extension. However my fears were misplaced. The nose has sweet toffee, salt and some smoke. Definitely has some classic maritime or island notes. The taste is very sweet, even sugary, ripe banana and fresh lemon oil. Has a little more body and depth than the classic Cutty, with smoke replacing the usual Cutty Sark malt notes. With water it is a little better balanced… sweet and spicy. The finish is oak spice, pepper and some lemon. Nice blend.
