Woodford Reserve Distillers Select Straight Rye

This bottle was labelled #3031 from Batch 0887 and bottled at 45.2% ABV.  The nose was very nice, herbal tea with mint and sweet vanilla notes.  The mouthfeel is fresh, light and oily, bittersweet on palate with more vanilla, candy, black coffee and dark chocolate.  The finish has peppermint, wood and grassy rye notes.  With water it gets sweeter, even honeyed, while heat builds in the finish with chilli spiced dark chocolate.  Overall very delicious; a light and subtle of straight rye.

A slightly odd nose on this one, I read anoither review that talked about sileage which can't be good.  In my notes I wrote candlewax, grains and malt and some wood.  The taste at first is very smooth, with some chocolate and caramel notes, nutty and creamy like a dessert but not as sweet.  The spice builds in the finish, but some milk chocolate lingers as well, along with vanilla and other hints of bourbon.  Dries out at the end.  Good and full flavored, due in part to the distillery owners policy of non-chill filltering any of their expressions and bottling at 46% ABV.  This is nice, these guys are slowly winning me over after the distillery visitor experience, see...  http://www.somanywhiskies.com/distilleries/item/106-tobermory .
