Woodford Reserve Distillers Select Straight Rye

This bottle was labelled #3031 from Batch 0887 and bottled at 45.2% ABV.  The nose was very nice, herbal tea with mint and sweet vanilla notes.  The mouthfeel is fresh, light and oily, bittersweet on palate with more vanilla, candy, black coffee and dark chocolate.  The finish has peppermint, wood and grassy rye notes.  With water it gets sweeter, even honeyed, while heat builds in the finish with chilli spiced dark chocolate.  Overall very delicious; a light and subtle of straight rye.

    Manhattan Project: Experiment #80

    Written by

Location: Moon Palace, The Grand, Cancun, Mexico

    Date: March 2023

    Price: All inclusive resort

Recipe: Listed as "whisky, vermouth rosso and cherry"

    Garnish: Maraschino Cherry

    Served: Rocks

Comments: Not great and based on resort overall I guess it was a small pour of a generic "whisky".  Missed the bitters

    Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve

I like Knob Creek, great bourbon at a great price, and this is the single barrel, 60% ABV version.  The nose has marshmallow, alcohol and a musty note, like old books.   The taste has some alcohol burn at first then becomes stringent, then comes some mint, rye, oak and vanilla coke.  Lots of the taste carries over along with the alcohol and then some rye notes at the end.   This is powerful stuff, bourbon concentrate.
