Woodford Reserve Distillers Select Straight Rye

This bottle was labelled #3031 from Batch 0887 and bottled at 45.2% ABV.  The nose was very nice, herbal tea with mint and sweet vanilla notes.  The mouthfeel is fresh, light and oily, bittersweet on palate with more vanilla, candy, black coffee and dark chocolate.  The finish has peppermint, wood and grassy rye notes.  With water it gets sweeter, even honeyed, while heat builds in the finish with chilli spiced dark chocolate.  Overall very delicious; a light and subtle of straight rye.

    Price: $9.50

Recipe: Not on menu, requested with Makers Mark

    Garnish: Black Cherry

Comments: Great value (might of been Happy Hour as it was after a round of golf).  Second place in a row to ask "big ice" or "lots of little ice".

Bakery Hill Classic Malt Cask Strength

This Australian single malt was one of the harder whiskies to find in 101 World Whiskies to Try Before You Die as they no longer distribute in UK or USA.  However after an email to the distillery I was able to arrange for some samples to be sent to a colleague in Australia, who kindly hand carried them to Paris in February 2014.  The nose has sweet malt, candied oranges and surprisingly little alcohol for 60% ABV.  The taste has lots of floral notes, vanilla and more of the sweet malt from the nose.  Smooth mouthfeel at first and then the alchohol bites before finishing very dry and sweet.  With water some toffee apple notes in the taste and the oak pushes through into the finish.  Very nice and more evidence that Australia is a match for the UK in more than just cricket.
