Laphroaig Triple Wood

I was initially not over whelmed by Laphroaig 10 year old (the standard expression) and could not get past the medicinal notes this single malt is so famous for.  I really enjoyed the Quarter Cask, the additional maturation in wood (for my palatte) really helped the whisky and the now the Triple Wood takes the same spirit from the Quarter Cask and then it spends an additional two years in Oloroso sherry casks.  I really like the combination of Islay peated whiskies and sherry casks (see Bowmore Darkest) and no surprise  I really liked this one as well which I tasted at a Laphroaig Master Class.  The nose on this one is sweet with raisins, and some smoke.    The taste is also sweet, surprisingly has some vanilla notes and then the sherry and smoke comes through in the finish, delicious.  My favorite Laphroaig.
