Four Roses

I like this distillery a lot.  It was definitely one of the better stops on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail and their Single Barrel expression was something I discovered on that trip and has now become one of my favorite bourbons.  This is the standard expression and is good stuff too.   Until recently in the US the brand Four Roses was used for a low quality blended whisky and not bourbon, so it has some reputation re-building to do, but based on quality of this that shouldn't take long.  The nose has vanilla, recently polished wood, peaches and bubblegum.  Maybe a hint of beeswax as well.   The taste has popcorn and caramel at first, then some wood and tannins to give a slightly sharp, even dry, finish with rye and spices.  Very good, smooth, sipping whiskey.
