This is what I call a "sleeper" whisky. It spends most of the time hiding away in blended whiskies and acting like just another Speyside single malt. It has a very low profile... just one standard expression is available... but it was outed by Ian Buxton in 101 World Whiskies to Try Before You Die and I am rather glad about that. I didn't get a lot from the nose, perhaps malt and some faint rose petals but the taste more than makes up for it. The taste starts with a massive burst of caramel, toffee and chocolate and then builds into an oaky, vanilla, spicy finish. There is real grip of oak at the end that was almost smoke. Fantastic balance of flavors. I wrote the note "tastes like a curlywurly had a baby with pencil" but that was after a few tasting drams so maybe I was a bit carried away with the whole thing by then!
