I like Penderyn and I like portwood finishes (usually) so I was very happy to see this little beauty at WhiskyLive London 2013. The nose has classic portwood sweet fruitiness and even chocolate. However the Penderyn fresh grain notes still evident as well. The taste is creamy and sweet, chocolate covered strawberries. Almost, but not quite, sweet enough to be a dessert whisky. A little spice and grip comes in at end and though the not too long finish. Very nice but you get feeling this is more towards ‘port flavored’ rather than ‘port finished’. It is it a fitting addition to their line because it is very red in color… redder than a Shane Williams rugby shirt.
