My first Kavalan, my first Taiwanese whisky and the first sample I tasted at the Kavalan masterclass held at WhiskyLive London in 2013 and hosted by the King Car distiller Ian Chang. This expression is now known as Kavalan Single Malt which caused me some confusion as it is in my 101 Word Whiskies to Try Before You Die under the name I am using in this review; Kavalan Classic. The nose is very nice, sweet and fruity, candy floss and tinned peaches. Ian talked about mango as the distillery signature note⦠which is maybe what I got as tinned peach. The taste is quite warm and spicy, more fruits and some citrus for sure. The finish had oak bite, lime peel and spicy pepper. Not bad, not bad at all.
