My Handcrafted Opinions on Whiskies, Distilleries and Other Related Stuff

Elijah Craig 18 year old Single Barrel

I found this little beauty in a hotel bar in Dubai.  It made the 30+ hours of air travel to get there almost worth it.  The nose the is toffee sweet, vanilla and maybe some coffee.  Some familiar workshop smells of fresh paint and sawdust in the background as well.  This comes at just 90 proof (45% ABV) but is still quite harsh at first, but that soon fades to reveal sweet oak, cola, hot tamale candies and pepper.  Somehow manages to balance a quite light mouthfeel with a full and rich flavor profile.  There is rye and mint in the lingering finish.  A very nice balance of sweet spirit and oak.
