Kilchomen Inaugural 100% Islay

This bottling was released in 2011 at 3 years old.  The nose has peat, lemon peel and salty ocean and iodine notes.  The taste reflects the spicy young spirit with sweet caramel and more lemon notes.  The finish has more lingering peat and pepper notes.  With water a little oak breaks through with some smoke, vanilla and a few more grinds of black pepper.  Just the thing it you need a dram to warm you up rather than savour. Its not the most complex whisky but it is nicely balanced and I can see why people get excited about the prospects of more aged Kilchomen.  Personally I can't want wait to see a sherry cask expression.
